Summer Camp
2024

Join us for summer camp at KGC! Throughout the summer, our camp offers themed weeks with field trips, swimming, gymnastics, special guests, and much more!

General Information

At KGC we understand the importance of physical activity in a child’s development. Gymnastics is the foundation sport for all physical activity and sports. Early participation in gymnastics develops the most fundamental movement skills, physical and motor abilities, social and emotional abilities and performance skills that carry over into all aspects of life.

We have designed a Summer Camp to ensure children keep active and have fun while learning gymnastics and interacting with other children. With 1-3 hours of gymnastics each day, children are sure to learn and improve their gymnastics skills; along with their strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination! Our gymnastics portion in camp is completely coach-led so the children can learn and improve their skills.

When we're not doing gymnastics, children are busy playing games in the gym and outside, making crafts, enjoying and exploring the gym during supervised free time, and participating in special activities based on the theme of the week. Your child’s safety and enjoyment are our top priority.

Our facility is fully air conditioned and we have a large space outside to play. We have a second-floor viewing area, lunch/snack, and craft room.

Every Tuesday we will take a field trip to a different location each week.

Every Wednesday we will have a special guest at the gym.

Every Thursday we will be going swimming.

Every Friday we will finish the week off with carnival games and a pizza lunch. If you wish to join in on the pizza lunch please bring cash ($3.50 a slice)

We aim to keep activities different from day to day and week to week to keep our returning campers interested! We accomplish this by provided a different theme every week with different crafts, games, special guests, and field trips.

We are a not-for-profit aiming to keep camp fees as low as possible to allow as many kids as possible the opportunity to join us. We offer Pre & Post Care for parents needing early drop off or late pick up before/after their camp day for an additional fee.

Our coaches love working with children and promoting the positive benefits of gymnastics and physical activity. The coaches are all trained through Gymnastics Ontario and receive regular in-club training. We have several safety policies and procedures in place.

If your child requires an EA at school, please contact the recreational coordinator to discuss some options. kgc.judy@gmail.com

Policies & More Information

Campers
KGC Camp is offered to children aged 4 through 12. We ask that all children attending our camp are able to use the washroom themselves. Children will be grouped with similar ages and with friends and siblings, as requested upon registration. The ratio for Campers to Coaches is dependent on the age of our participants, however, will not exceed 10:1, and is most often less (6:1 for age 4-5 and 8:1 for age 6+).

For their own safety and the safety of others, campers must listen to their coaches at all times. Should your child misbehave, a member of our team will be in touch to discuss any concerns. Campers who continue to misbehave may be sent home from camp and asked not to return. No refunds will be provided in this case.

Camper Supervision and Injuries/Illnesses
Campers are supervised at all times during camp, from the time they are signed in to the time they are signed out. KGC and Gymnastics Ontario have tried to create a safe and controlled environment and KGC has many established rules and emergency action plans. However, there is always a potential risk of injury. We have trained coaches and have many policies and procedures in place for this reason, Adults are verbally notified at pick-up of any injury/illness that occurred during camp, if: 1. The camper sat out or missed more than one turn, or changed their activity to protect the injured body part; or 2. If there was any blood involved. If injuries/illnesses require medical attention, the parent will be contacted immediately and depending on the severity, an ambulance may be called.

Staff
At all times during camp there is at least one Camp Supervisor who has First Aid and CPR training. All of our coaches are certified with the National Coaching Certification Program and receive in-club training. The Camp Coordinator is on site for the majority of the camp days and Senior Supervisors are always on site.

Field Trips

Every Tuesday, the campers and coaches will attend a special field trip. Field trips are yet to be determined. We will communicate this information once it is confirmed. T-shirts will be distributed on Tuesday mornings each week. If your child is attending more than one week of camp and already has a KGC T-shirt, please be sure it is packed for Tuesdays field trip.

Every Thursday afternoon, we will be going swimming and will arrive back to the club by 4:00pm. It is especially important on Thursdays to remember to bring an extra change of clothes, sunscreen, hat, swim suit, towel, running shoes for outdoor play, and extra water/snacks.

Depending on the activity, we aim to keep a 7:1 ratio which includes supervisors and coaches. The supervisor(s) will bring a first aid kit, sunscreen, and a cell phone in case of emergency on all outings. Please note that we cannot wait for late-comers on field trip days. If you arrive late, you will be responsible for driving your camper(s) to the field trip location if you wish to join. Campers may not remain at the club as we will not have staff to supervise. Refunds/credits will not be given if the field trip is missed. Thanks for your understanding.

Sunscreen
Parents/guardians are required provide sunscreen for their own child to use during the day. Sunscreen sent to camp should be labeled with the child’s first and last name. Staff will only assist with applying your child's sunscreen if they require such assistance and only if consent is given via your camp registration form. We strongly encourage spray on sunscreen as it's faster and easier to apply. Many children have skin sensitivities or allergies to sunscreens. As such, in the rare occasion where your camper forgets to bring sunscreen to

camp, our staff will only provide or apply sunscreen, which is on hand at the club, if your consent has been provided at the time of registration. It is important to note that the sunscreen at the club is for emergency use only when sunscreen has been forgotten and may not comply with individual child requirements based on sensitivities or allergies. KGC will not take responsibility for any reactions which may occur as the result of sunscreen used at our club. Please take the time to review your choice options at the time of registration.

Lunch & Snacks
Please pack a lunch, morning snack, and afternoon snack. We are a peanut free facility! All weekly allergies will be labelled on the whiteboard located at the front entrance. We have a water fountain for children to re-fill their water bottles. Many water bottles get left behind, so please ensure it is labelled. Pizza day is every Friday. Pizza is $3.50 per slice, please bring cash on the Friday!

Drop Off & Pick Up
Please drop off your child no earlier than 5 minutes before camp and pick them up no later than 5 minutes after camp. Campers are required to wait inside the building and must be signed out by a parent or guardian before leaving.

Pre & Post Care
